BAYAMBANG Mayor Leocadio “Boy” de Vera continues to support Pangasinan cycling competitions by staging another renowned bicycle road race on April 7 in conjunction with the celebration of his town fiesta.

De Vera, one of a few political leaders in the province who is an avid aficionado in cycling, said the bikefest this year will be open for amateur cyclists only with a maximum of 60 participants and those first to come to register can only participate.

“Unlike last year which was a mixed of professionals and amateurs event, we decided to hold this time exclusively for juniors and amateurs because we want to give these young athletes to expose them to gain experience and gauge themselves how far are their capabilities, develop them and at least earn some cash worthy for their efforts,” said de Vera.

“We knew that some day soon these young kids   will replace our aging champs in this two-wheeled sport, and eventually they will also bring another laurels for our province,” he pointed out.

This year’s road battle will be called “Tour de Vera” and will traverse the entire municipalities of the third district of Pangasinan twice, with a total cash pot of P31,000 plus trophies and medals at stake.

The race starts and ends at Bayambang passing the towns of Basista, San Carlos City, Calasiao, Tuliao junction (Sta. Barbara), Mapandan, back to Sta. Barbara via the barangays of Menien, Banaoang, Ventenilla, Malasiqui, back to Bayambang, then again to Basista, San Carlos City, Calasiao, Tuliao junction (Sta. Barbara), Mapandan, to Malasiqui via barangays Torres, Catablan, Menien, Asin East, Calbeg and Bolaoit, then finishes across the Bayambang town plaza with an approximate distance of 150 kilometers.
