THANK you for prioritizing education in Dagupan, expressed Dr. Rowena Banzon, the city schools division superintendent, during a recent address to the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

She was with other officials from the City School Division and principals of local public elementary and high schools who made an unannounced visit to the Sanggunian, prompting university students to vacate their seats in the gallery to make room for the educators.

Vice Mayor Bryan Kua, the presiding officer, appeared caught off guard by their unexpected presence.

“Our attendance underscores our deep appreciation for the partnership we’ve developed,” Banzon noted, highlighting various programs and initiatives of the Department of Education that have received support from the Sangguniang Panlungsod, led by Vice Mayor Kua.

She also extended her gratitude to the city councilors for their individual efforts in assisting local schools and students.

Banzon remarked that Dagupan stands out to her as a place where local officials genuinely prioritize the education of children, who will be the future leaders of the city. Earlier that day, she, along with other DepEd Dagupan officials, presented a plaque of appreciation to Mayor Belen Fernandez for her unwavering support of the city’s educational needs.

In a social media post, Banzon reflected on her experiences in various locations, stating that only in Dagupan has she observed such commitment to making education a top priority. Since her arrival in Dagupan nearly three years ago to lead the City Schools Division, she has inaugurated over 20 new school buildings funded by the Dagupan City government under Mayor Fernandez’s administration.

Dagupan also offers a scholarship program that supports 6,000 students from underprivileged families, providing them with the opportunity to pursue higher education, thereby empowering them to uplift their families and improve their quality of life. (Leonardo Micua)
