Repair of Calasiao dike underway

REPAIR works on the damaged dike in Barangay San Vicente, Calasiao are now in full swing, with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 4th District Engineering Office in charge.

Focus is on reinforcing the dike with sandbags and the installation of gabion baskets to prevent water overflow and protect local communities from more flooding.

The new gabion baskets are designed for stronger protection and serve as barriers against water intrusion.

On September 26, a portion of the dike collapsed amid strong water flow in the Marusay River due to heavy rains caused by Typhoon Opong.

The flooding affected Barangays San Vicente, Banaoang, and Dinalaoan in Calasiao, as well as Lucao and Malued in Dagupan City.

The local government of Calasiao, including barangay officials, are conducting regular inspections to ensure that progress is steady and that the project stays on track. (Ahikam Pasion)
