DPWH: Calmay Bridge construction continues

By October 12, 2025Top Stories

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has clarified that Phase I of the Calmay Bridge project is now complete, and the second phase is just awaiting funding that is scheduled for release in 2026.

DPWH clarified malicious information being posted on social media by a candidate who lost in the May 2025 election that construction of the project has already ground to a halt.

DPWH also pointed out that the contractor actually completed Phase 1 with speed and efficiency.

Work on the bridge –  which will link mainland Dagupan City to Barangays Calmay and Carael, then to Binmaley and Lingayen – is divided into three phases and is scheduled for completion by 2028.

The Office of Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia was swamped with calls from residents of Barangays Calmay and Carael, who said they were saddened by the malicious social media post that construction of the bridge will no longer push through because of the ongoing probes into irregularities in flood control projects by the Senate and the Independent Commission on Infrastructure.

This is not true, the DPWH said.

The bridge, which broke ground last year, was initiated by former Rep. Christopher de Venecia during the 19th Congress.

The DPWH also denied the allegation of the politician that the Dawel Bridge was “overpriced.” (Leonardo Micua)
