TWO of the 31 barangays of Dagupan City earned a Seal for Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) for 2024, an annual recognition given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

These are Barangays Pantal headed by Punong Barangay Julieta Perez, and Barangay Bonuan Gueset headed by Punong Barangay Manuel Bumanglag.

It was a back-to-back award for Pantal after winning SGLGB in 2023, and the first for Bonuan Gueset.

The two are among the 3,283 barangays – just 8% of 41,610 nationwide – that earned the SGLGB award for 2024.

The Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod passed two separate resolutions commending Pantal and Bonuan Gueset, with sponsorship coming from residents of the winning communities, particularly Councilor Danielle Canto for the former and Councilors Tala Paras and Jalice Cayabyab for the latter.

Both barangays passed stringent performance evaluations based on the DILG’s 3+1 principle: excellence in all three core governance areas (financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, safety and peace and order), and three essential areas (social protection and sensitivity, business-friendliness and competitiveness, and environmental management).

Councilor and Dagupan City Liga ng Mga Barangay President Marcelino Fernandez said Pantal and Bonuan Gueset will be honored, together with the fourth batch of national awardees, during the conference of the National Liga ng mga Barangay on October 18 at the World Trade Center in Manila.
