MBTF supports LCP manifesto on flood control projects probe
DAGUPAN City Mayor Belen Fernandez said she is in full accord with the manifesto of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) supporting President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for transparency and accountability on flood control projects.
The manifesto, dated August 22, 2025, was signed by San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, LCP national president of LCP.
“We commend the President’s directives and express our full support for the ongoing investigation into alleged anomalies in the implementation of substandard and so-called ‘ghost’ flood control projects. We urge concerned government agencies to cooperate fully and report truthfully on the actual status of these infrastructure projects,” the manifesto reads.
Fernandez, who is Region 1 representative to the LCP, expressed her support to the probe in a post on her Facebook account, where she also commended the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for their projects in Dagupan over the past three years that have helped alleviate flooding.
The DPWH has been undertaking flood mitigation work, particularly the elevation of roads and wider drainage systems.
“Dagupan need not wait for another 10 years to solve the flooding. But we are doing it through perseverance and sincere coordination with the DPWH and the cooperation of various sectors,” she said.
Fernandez also stressed that infighting and fault-finding are not the solution to the city’s longstanding flooding problem, but cooperation among all sectors. (Leonardo Micua)
