MOST BUSINESSES RESUME OPERATIONS

ALL major roads in Dagupan are now passable to light vehicles, except a section of Mayombo Road going to M.H. Del Pilar Street and A.B. Fernandez Avenue, and most establishments at the city’s Central Business District are back to normal operations.

The  City Government Information Office made the announcement Friday morning, August 1, but face-to-face classes in all schools, public and private, remained suspended, the same as work in all offices of the Dagupan City government, except those involved in the delivery of essential public services.

Flood waters in some streets have not completely subsided because of the high tide, but are now passable to light vehicles such as cars, jeepneys, tricycles, and mini-buses.

Market vendors, meanwhile, are still temporarily selling on road sides near the foot of the Quintos Bridge as of July 31.

As of 7:00 a.m. on Friday, the sun was out and the forecast for rain was low until the weekend.

However, the Philippine Information Agency-Pangasinan reported that as of 8:00 a.m. on August 1, the current water level at the Marusay River was still more than nine feet, which is above critical level. On the other hand, the water level upstream of the Sinocalan River in Sta. Barbara has dropped below the normal level at 5.3 meters.

The water of the Marusay River flows to Dagupan City, the catch basin of all water from the northern mountains, before emptying into the Lingayen Gulf.

Although flood waters were already receding in Dagupan on Friday morning, Mayor Belen Fernandez still called on residents to remain on alert.
