Still no Mpox case in Pangasinan
AUTHORITIES SLAM FAKE NEWS
THERE is no confirmed case of Mpox, previously called monkeypox, in Pangasinan as of last week, as health and local officials denounced those spreading fake news on social media.
The Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan City, where the rumored Mpox patient is supposedly confined, issued an advisory dated June 2, belying the reports.
“As of this time, no confirmed case of Mpox has been officially declared by the Department of Health (DOH) or the Region 1 Medical Center. All patients are being managed in accordance with the strict infection prevention protocols and public health guidelines,” it said.
Department of Health (DOH)-Ilocos Regional Director Paula Paz Sydiongco, in a separate statement, called on the public to be more cautious and discerning in sourcing and sharing information.
“Huwag po tayong basta-basta maniniwala sa mga naka-post sa mga social media. There is no need to panic dahil wala po tayong kaso ng Mpox sa Pangasinan sa ngayon,” she said.
Dagupan Mayor Belen Fernandez also called for calm among residents, to be vigilant, and to tune in to official news sources.
R1MC advised the public to maintain good hygiene, follow health advisories, and stay informed to help protect themselves and the community against Mpox, a viral disease that can spread through close contact with infected individuals or contaminated materials.
