PANGASINAN recorded 1,371 dengue cases from January to June 9, 2025, a staggering 129% increase from 598 in the same period last year.

According to Eugenio Carlos S. Paragas, Pangasinan Provincial Health Office (PHO) manager for the Aedes-borne Viral Diseases Program, towns and cities with the highest number of dengue cases include Rosales, Sta. Barbara, Lingayen, Mangaldan, Calasiao, Asingan, San Fabian, and Alaminos City.

Twelve people have died from the disease this year, mostly children.

In an interview, Paragas said several factors contributed to the spike in dengue cases this year, such as increased rainfall, which led to more breeding sites for mosquitoes, especially in areas already reporting high numbers of cases.

In response to the rising cases, the provincial government has reactivated dengue fast lanes in public hospitals to efficiently manage dengue patients.

Authorities urge the public to seek immediate medical consultation if they experience dengue symptoms, as most of the fatalities occurred in cases where treatment was delayed. (Ahikam Pasion)
