DAGUPAN was the ninth of the 149 cities in the Philippines included in the list of the World’s Largest Urban Economies based on the 2025 Oxford Economics Global Cities Index.

Of the nine Philippine cities, Dagupan was ranked seventh and 581st globally.

Topping the list of Philippine cities is the national capital, Manila ranked 206th worldwide, followed by Cebu City (470th), Angeles City (488th), Bacolod City (518th), Davao City (519th), and Cagayan de Oro City (577th). Below Dagupan are General Santos City (835th) and Zamboanga City (861st).

Globally, the top-ranked cities after New York are London, Paris, San Jose, Seattle, Melbourne, Sydney, Boston, Tokyo, and San Francisco, in that order.

“It is a great honor to know that our city is included in the list as having the World’s Largest Urban Economies,” said Mayor Belen Fernandez, noting that it is Dagupan’s second inclusion in the Oxford Index.

Fernandez said Dagupan’s top world ranking was made possible through the collective efforts of hardworking department heads and employees, the entire working force of LGU Dagupan, and the people of Dagupan in general, including investors.

“Indeed, our UnliSerbisyo is true to its core because we are known for our sincerity and excellence in delivering services that boost our economy, build infrastructures, strengthen our labor market, and livelihood for every Dagupeno,” she added.

The accolade was announced on June 2, about three weeks after the May 12 mid-term elections where Fernandez’ UnliSerbisyo team scored a near sweep of the polls, and only less than a month before she and the new set of officials will assume their official duties.

She vowed that with obstructionism in the city council soon gone, progress and development of Dagupan will be accelerated with the new set of officials composed of her, Vice Mayor Bryan Kua, and Councilors Michael Fernandez, Joey Tamayo, Tala Paras, Jeslito Seen, Danee Canto, Karlos Reyna, Marvin Fabia, Luis Samson Jr. and Dr. Jaja Cayabyab assuming office by June 30.  (Leonardo Micua)
