Parayno campaigns from home due to death threats
URDANETA Mayor Julio Parayno III resumed his campaign activities for his reelection bid in the May 12 elections last week from home as he claimed that three groups of hired killers are after him.
“For my own sake and for the sake of my family, I have to distance myself from the campaign,” he said, while the rest of his team, led by his cousin, reelectionist Vice Mayor Jimmy Parayno, continues with their barangay sorties.
He said he was informed by reliable sources that three groups of hired killers – one from Abra, another from Isabela, and one from Urdaneta – who have been in and out of prison, were contracted to kill him.
Urdaneta is one of the places in Pangasinan placed by the Commission on Elections and the police under the yellow category or area of concern, along with Dagupan City and five towns of Pangasinan, due to keen political rivalries.
The fight for the mayoralty post in Urdaneta is between Parayno and Maan Guico, wife of Gov. Ramon Guico III whose father, Ramon Guico Jr., is the Fifth District representative.
Parayno is reportedly supported by 18 barangay captains while Guico has 16 on her side. (Leonardo Micua)
