GOV. Ramon Guico III called for unity following his reelection, citing in particular the need for cooperation among all stakeholders in the healthcare sector.

“Let us not toy with the lives of the people, especially those that involve healthcare,” he said during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony, noting that as he added that people’s well-being goes beyond political color, affiliation, religion, belief and orientation.

During the campaign for the May 12 elections, his Guiconsulta program, a support project for PhilHealth’s Konsulta program, drew heavy criticism for allegedly being used to win votes.

With his fresh three-year term, Guico vowed to continue prioritizing health services, including the modernization of all 14 government-operated hospitals in Pangasinan.

He also reiterated his plan to put up specialty hospitals for heart, kidney, and cancer during his second term, saying, “This is a big challenge for all of us, it seems this is impossible, but this is very-very possible.”

He thanked both his supporters as well as those who did not vote for him: “Thank you for your balance and for the feedback. As such, there is a realization that there is still a big room for improvement in the things we do.”

Guico got 880,906 votes, defeating former Gov. Amado Espino III who received 784,070 votes. (PIMRO/RFR)
