MOST BOARD MEMBERS GET FRESH TERM

GOVERNOR Ramon Guico III won his reelection bid for a second term, again beating his predecessor Amado Espino III whom he unseated in 2022, a signal that Pangasinenses resoundingly approve of his programs and projects in the last three years.

Guico, who run under the Nacionalista Party, garnered 881,307 votes or 52.91% of the 1.7 million votes cast in the province on May 12, while Espino who run under the banner of the Abante Pangasinan-Ilocano (API), got 784,470 votes or 47%.

Guico’s teammate, Vice Governor Mark Lambino, won his third and final term when he beat API’s Noel Nacar by a landslide,  garnering  1,022,160 votes against Nacar’s only 385,316 votes.

Meanwhile, the provincial board of canvassers chaired by Atty. Ericson Oganiza, provincial elections supervisor, officially ended its canvass of election returns at past 5:00 p.m. on May 13 after proclaiming the last winning  candidate for board member, Ranjit Ramos Shahani, who was not able to attend due to mobility limitations.

The proclamation had the concurrence Dr. Fatima Boado, member-secretary; and Atty. Ernesto Boquig, vice chairperson of the canvassing board.

Shahani, a former Pangasinan vice governor and Sixth District representative who run under the Liberal Party, garnered 89,563 votes, placing second to Noel Bince in the Sixth District, who run as an independent candidate, and amassed 102,362 votes.

Earlier proclaimed by the canvassing board were:

  • First District:  Reelectionists Apple Bacay and Napoleon Fontelers Jr. after garnering 149, 957 votes and 130,912 votes, respectively;
  • Second District: Reelectionist Philip Theodore Cruz (206,841 votes) and Haidee Pacheco (178,587);
  • Third District: Reelectionist Sheila Baniqued (253,736); and Vice Ventanilla (199,518);
  • Fourth District: Reelectionist Marino de Guzman (103,967) and Jerry Agerico Rosario (83,36);
  • Fifth District: Newcomer Rose Apaga (178,124) and reelectionist Louie Sison (149,149).

Oganiza told newsmen there was no election protest filed by any losing candidates although, he said, they still have 10 days to do so after the proclamation of winners.

As to alleged vote-buying and selling, Oganiza said no formal complaint was filed at his office that would have prompted him to issue a show cause order. (Leonardo Micua)
