ANOTHER CASE PENDING SUBMISSION OF EVIDENCE

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Pangasinan is seeking an explanation from a candidate running for a post within the Second District following allegations of vote-buying.

In an interview, Pangasinan Election Supervisor Atty. Erickson Oganiza confirmed that a show-cause order has been filed against the candidate in question, but declined to give a name as the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.

He said the poll body aims to avoid sensationalizing the issue and will wait for concrete evidence before determining if the alleged vote buying is substantiated. The concerned party has reportedly received the show-cause order.

Another vote-buying case was formally filed, but the investigation remains pending until the submission of additional evidence sought by the Comelec.

Meanwhile, two other vote-buying cases were reported but were dropped after the complainants failed to file formal complaints and provide additional evidence

Oganiza said complainants must provide photographic evidence of the act along with affidavits from witnesses for an allegation to be considered for investigation, and evidence solely derived from social media platforms, such as Facebook, is insufficient to substantiate claims of vote-buying.

He encouraged the public to report any witnessed vote-buying and assured that should a complainant choose to pursue legal action, the agency would provide witness protection to ensure their safety during the process.

Meanwhile, Balarbar also clarified that the distribution of social welfare assistance or aid is strictly prohibited from May 2 to May 12.

This prohibition covers various forms of social assistance provided by the government, including the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged /Displaced Workers (TUPAD), the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), and the contentious Aid to Individuals in Crisis Program (AKAP).
