Parayno: Don’t vote for candidate from Binalonan

REELECTIONIST Urdaneta Mayor Julio Parayno III described the current mayoralty race in the city as a fight between him and a non-resident of Urdaneta, referring to his opponent, Maan Guico, who is from Binalonan and that even is only by affinity being the wife of Pangasinan Gov. Ramon Guico III.

In a Miting de Avance held in Barangay Labit Proper, he said the fight is actually between him and the governor and his father, 5th District Rep. Ramon Guico Jr.

At any rate, Parayno expressed full confidence that he can easily beat Maan, citing a recent independent  survey which showed he leads by miles, noting that his rival, a native of Pampanga province, has not even resided in Urdaneta for at least one year.

Parayno pointed out that Urdaneta, the only first class city in Pangasinan and one of only two in Region 1, is not comparable to the neighboring municipality of Binalonan even with its classification as a first-class town.

He said the Guicos of Binalonan have their eyes on Urdaneta because they want the city to be annexed to their ‘kingdom’.

Urdaneta’s more than 102,000 population accounts for about one-third of the total 5th District’s 300,000.

Given this, Urdaneta City Councilor Franco San Juan del Prado, who got the highest vote in 2022 among all councilors, could possibly beat the elder Guico for the congressional seat.

Historically, Parayno said, all mayors of Urdaneta from Fernando Manangan, Manuel Sison, Amedeo Perez Jr., Amadeo Perez IV and even Norberto del Prado were all Urdanetans from birth.

In his one-hour speech, Parayno urged the people of Urdaneta to vote for his entire team, which includes reelectionist Vice Mayor Jimmy Parayno and 10 candidates for councilor, eight of whom are reelectionists while one is a come-backing city councilor.

Parayno also said he believes that former Governor Amado “Pogi” Espino III, who is running against the incumbent governor, will score a landslide win in Urdaneta and most parts of Pangasinan because his track record is better than Guico’s based on the latter’s first-term performance in the past three years.  (Leonardo Micua)
