Milpitas City officials on 5-day Dagupan visit
SPECIAL GUESTS OF 2025 BANGUS FESTIVAL
THE vice mayor of Milpitas City in California, a sister city of Dagupan in the United States, and his delegation arrived in Dagupan City on April 25 for a five-day official visit and as special guests during the 2025 Bangus Festival.
Vice Mayor Garry Barbadillo, Esq. and his group were welcomed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport by Mayor Belen Fernande and Vice Mayor Bryan Kua, and were hosted to a city tour that include a visit to Bonuan Blue Beach, the landing site of American General Douglas Mac Arthur and his liberation forces on January 9, 1945, and welcome dinner at the Mayor’s Pavillon in Tondaligan Park.
On April 27, he and his delegation will be honored with a barrio fiesta dinner reception hosted by the mayor, after witnessing the Bangusine, a culinary demonstration featuring bangus.
On April 28, they will be official guests during a program following a flag-raising ceremony at the city plaza, where he is expected to deliver a message to the people of Dagupan.
At 8:30 a.m., they will watch the Bangus Rodeo competition in front of the City Museum.
On April 29, Fernandez will bring the Milpitas delegation to different city schools where they will hold talks with students. They will also visit the West Central Elementary School’s Home Economics building, which was transformed into a museum in recognition of its place in history as the first command post and headquarters of General Douglas Mac Arthur when he came to liberate Luzon from the Japanese occupation forces.
He will also visit the National Integrated Fisheries Technology and Research Development Center of the BFAR to observe bangus growing technology and processing and for a potential Philippine-US business linkage. (Leonardo Micua)
600,000 expected to join Bangusan Street Party
ABOUT 600,000 visitors and locals are again expected to flock to the Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension in Dagupan City for the Bangusan Street Party on April 30, with live performances by top Filipino bands led by Sponge Cola as well as movie and television personalities.
This year, some 20,000 milkfish from fishponds of the city will be charcoal-cooked in 1,200 grills that will be lined up along the highway.
The Bangusan Street Party was previously adjudged by the Department of Tourism as the ‘biggest street party’ in the Philippines with over a million people attending.
The Bangusan Street Party will be followed by the Pista’y Dayat set at the Tondaligan Ferdinand Park along the Dagupan Blue Beach the next day.
Vice Mayor Garry Barbadillo, Esq. of Milpitas City in California, U.S.A., a sister-city of Dagupan, will be the official guest of Dagupan during the festivities.
