NEW FEATURE OF BANGUS FESTIVAL 2025

ARTISTS, art enthusiasts, and anyone with interest in architecture and urban planning who are 18 years old and above,  can join the first-ever Placemaking Dagupan Contest, a new event that will be launched in the ongoing Bangus Festival 2025.

Initiated by Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, champion of creative arts in the Philippines, the contest focuses on the design aspect of placemaking, which is the overall process of creating public spaces that improve the quality of life with the community’s participation.

Participants must choose a site in Dagupan – such as the beach, back streets, overpasses,  hidden corners, and markets – and draw a concept that will improve the quality of these spaces for the benefit of the public.

Every contestant’s concept must address these questions:

  1. How is the space currently used, and what are its strengths and weaknesses?
  2. How will the space encourage social interactions and community led-activities?
  3. What are the key elements of your design, and how do they contribute to placemaking?
  4. How does your design address environmental concerns such as climate resilience, waste management, or green spaces and
  5. How does your design tell a story about the place and its people.

Participants must submit their concept proposal (in PDF format, maximum of six pages) with a project title and brief description, design intent and objectives, community engagement strategies, sustainable considerations, visual presentation, site analysis and existing conditions, concepts sketches or digital renderings, proposed site plan and actions, and materiality and color palette.

The first prize will receive P30,000; second prize, P20,000; third place, P10,000; and P5,000 for honorable mentions.

All entries must be submitted to: placemakingdagupan@gmail.com on or before April 23, 2025. Awarding of winners will be on April 29. The winning designs will be featured in the Bangus Festival 2025. (Leonardo Micua)
