INTEL WORK VS DRUG FUNDS CONTINUE

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Pangasinan has temporarily suspended its drug clearing operations in barangays as preparations ramp up for the May 12 election.

PDEA Provincial Chief Rechie Camacho announced last week that the decision to pause their operations is to avoid getting in the way of a smooth electoral process.

However, the agency continues to gather intelligence reports regarding the potential use of drug money in the elections, as concerns over the increase in illegal drug activities in both Pangasinan and its neighboring provinces continue to grow.

Currently, Pangasinan has 1,197 drug-cleared barangays, with just 75 barangays still identified as drug-affected, but Camacho emphasized the need for continued vigilance to combat the rising presence of illegal drugs in the region.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the establishment of another Balay Silangan center in Burgos as part of the drug rehabilitation program. (Ahikam Pasion)
