Pangasinan records most dengue cases in region
DOH CALLS FOR 4 O’CLOCK HABIT
THE Department of Health (DOH) in Region 1 reiterated its call for local government units (LGUs) to strengthen efforts in eliminating mosquito-breeding sites through a coordinated initiative known as the “4 o’clock Habit” as dengue cases rise, with Pangasinan recording the highest number of confirmed dengue patients.
The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit shows 884 cases reported from January 1 to February 15 this year, more than double the 441 cases recorded during the same period in 2024.
Pangasinan had 503 cases, including 56 in Dagupan City, La Union had 176 cases; Ilocos Sur, 134; and Ilocos Norte, 71.
DOH-R1 chief Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco said the four-o’clock habit encourages communities to engage in preventive measures every day at 4 p.m. to protect themselves and their families.
The regional office already provided anti-dengue supplies to LGUs, including misting machines, backpack sprayers, insecticides, and Olyset nets last year to bolster local clean-up drives and misting operations, particularly in areas experiencing high dengue cases. (Ahikam Pasion)
