DAGUPAN Mayor Belen Fernandez said she is confident that the city can have a P2-billion economy before the end of 2025, citing current economic trends as well as the numerous awards and recognitions achieved by the city over the last two years under her administration.

“We know we are doing things right in growing our economy,” she said in her State of the  City Address (SOCA) before a jampacked crowd of some 5,000 people at CSI Stadia last March 18.

She also cited the city’s ranking as the 9th Most Improved LGU in the Philippines out of 116 in the Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index. Dagupan is also the 12th in overall government efficiency.

The ultimate goal, the mayor said, is to become a first-class city from its present status as a second class city.

A report from the City Treasurer’s Office shows that the city’s income improved to P1.417 billion in 2024 from P1.407 in 2022. Collections from business permit, miscellaneous fees, community tax and property tax also rose to P304.5 million from P264.5 million during that period.

Upon her return in 2022, Fernandez revived the Investments and Promotion Board, which was phased out by the previous city administration, to promote the city to investors.

She also pointed to the numerous awards received by the City in 2024, including the Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping from the Department of the Interior and Local Government. (Leonardo Micua)
