SENATOR Risa Hontiveros called Dagupan the “Diamond City of the North” when she visited on February 18 to inaugurate Phase 1 of the newly built One-Bonuan Tourism Pavillon in Barangay Bonuan Binloc, costing some P30 million funded by her office.

She said she is proud to be part of the tourism development of the city that is best known for its tasty bangus (milkfish), beaches, and friendly people.

Phase II of the project is a P30 million commercial complex adjacent the Pavillon, and Phase III will be another P30 million project for sports facilities such as a skateboard park, costing another P30 million, both funded by Hontiveros.

The senator was accompanied by Atty. Chel Diokno, the No. 1 nominee of party list Akbayan.

Mayor Belen Fernandez said the One Bonuan Pavillon — which will be co-managed by Barangays Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Boquig and Bonuan Binloc — will surely spur tourism and contribute to the local economy.

Built for Dagupan by the Second Engineering District of Pangasinan headed by Edita Manuel, the edifice is a multi-purpose building for tourists and can also be used for banquets, parties and other special occasions.

Fernandez said the Dagupan Blue Beach is now being primed to become another surfing destination in northern Luzon following the recent visit of Department of Tourism (DOT) officials who were in talks with 4th District Representative Christopher de Venecia, and Engr. Karlos Reyna, former tourism infrastructure consultant of Dagupan.

The DOT’s Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, through the initiative of De Vencia, will also provide solar lighting of the board walk, starting from the BJMP compound in Bonuan Gueset to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources complex in Bonuan Binloc for the convenience of people promenading at Tondaligan Park at night.
