SOME P2.2 billion worth of infrastructure projects, covered by local funds, are being rolled out in Dagupan City, according to Mayor Belen Fernandez.

Speaking on Wednesday over IFM Radio Dagupan hosted by Mark Espinoza, the mayor said these projects include those funded by Supplemental Budget No. 2-2024 with P557 million, other subsequent supplemental budgets, and the P1.6-billion 2025 budget passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod last year while it was under the control of her ally councilors.

“The Sangguniang Panlungsod under the new majority when three opposition councilors were placed under 60-day preventive suspension approved more than 100 infra projects for Dagupan,” Fernandez said.

She said 70% of projects under Supplemental Budget No. 2-2024 have already been either bid out or construction has started.

The projects include about 20 school buildings and other structures in public elementary and high schools, and road elevation and drainage systems sought by barangay chairmen.

Fernandez assured that construction work will not be affected by the ban on infrastructure projects in connection with the May 2025 elections as some of these are already ongoing or about to be started.

In addition, several projects are also underway or lined up with funding from the budgets of different senators and the Abono party list through Rep. Robert “Eskimo” Estrella Jr.

These include Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Riza Honteveros, Grace Poe, Francis Tolentino and  former Senator and now Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Senator Bong Revilla. (Leonardo Micua)
