R1 voters slightly up in validated list
PANGASINAN ACCOUNTS FOR 59%
THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in the Ilocos Region announced that the voter registration list is fully updated and free of discrepancies.
According to Atty. Noli Pipo, Regional COMELEC Director, the number of registered voters in Region 1 has reached 3,654,020 based on the list validated by the Election Registration Board (ERB) as of October 14, 2024.
The total is 17,000 higher than the 3,637,591 registered voters during the 2023 barangay elections. In 2022, the region had approximately 3.6 million registered voters.
Pangasinan still has the highest number with 2,170,694 voters, which accounts for 59% of the region’s total. La Union comes next with 557,617 voters; Ilocos Sur, 488,800p; and Ilocos Norte, 436,909.
Pipo explained that the updated list accounts for the 249,025 deactivated names who failed to vote in two previous elections as well as those confirmed to be deceased in coordination with local civil registrars.
Meanwhile, he said, voting hours on election day will begin early to accommodate vulnerable sectors, with 5:00 to 7:00 a.m., designated for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs). There will also be a priority lane for these vulnerable sectors the whole day.
The COMELEC’s efforts to streamline the voter registry is intended to ensure a fair and efficient election process in the upcoming polls. (Ahikam Pasion)
