MBTF: Election ban won’t affect rollout of infra projects
DAGUPAN City Mayor Belen Fernandez assured last week that projects funded by the 20% development fund for 2025 and those under Supplemental Budget No. 2 of 2023, which were passed only on November 5, will not be affected by the election ban on public works projects next year.
She said they are taking steps to ensure that projects under Supplemental Budget No. 2 worth P185 million – all long overdue since 2022 – do not face any more delays by expediting the bidding and awards process so that construction can immediately start before the ban.
Among the infrastructure projects to be funded by the supplemental budget are: the repair of the Senior Citizens Building at the City Plaza, repair of the satellite City Heath Office building, the repair of the Heath Center in Sitio Korea, the construction of the covered court gymnasium at Pugaro Integrated School, construction of Lifeguard Tower at Tondaligan Park, fabrication of an achievement hall at the ground floor of the City Museum, and improvement of two swimming pools.
Several road and drainage system projects are also included along with the site development at the Dagupan Family Super Health Center Compound, the construction of one-storey Day Care Center in Salapingao, and the improvement of covered court gymnasium in various schools.
Meanwhile, the 15 projects to be funded by the 20% development fund next year include the upgrading of PCC pavement and drainage system at Gomez Street in Barangay IV; Carael Road; Manila Railroad (MRR) North and South Roads; PCC pavement and drainage system going to LTO Poblacion Oeste and CSWD Office Phase III at Rioferio Road in Pantal.
“We would like to make sure that the construction of PCC (Portland cement concrete) pavement and drainage systems in various barangays will be in place before next year’s rainy season sets in,” Fernandez told newsmen.
It also covers the construction of several buildings and structures in various schools, the improvement of 46 Child Development Centers in 31 barangays, and the improvement of various city hall offices. (Leonardo Micua)
