Suspended Urdaneta mayor files for re-election

URDANETA City Mayor Julius “Rammy” Parayno, currently under a nine-month suspension over a red tape-related complaint, filed his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) for re-election last week, citing clamor from his constituents to complete a third and final term in office.

He evaded questions of newsmen about his suspension when he accompanied Urdaneta City Councilor Franco del Prado when he filed his CoC for congressman in the 4th District of Pangasinan. The latter, on the other hand, defended the mayor, brushing off the suspension case as nothing serious.

Parayno, who is running with his cousin, incumbent Vice Mayor Jimmy “Jing” Parayno under the slogan “Taga Urdaneta ako”, is unperturbed over the challenge posed by Mrs. Maan Tuazon-Guico, wife of Governor Ramon Guico III.

Saying “Urdaneta is for Urdanetans,” he enumerated the numerous programs and projects he had initiated during his close to six years in office.

His 10-man team for councilors includes Warren Andrana, Auring Agsalud, Palleng Villanueva, Jhan Hero Sumera, Ponso del Prado, Rio Esteves, Doc Bles Sumera, Bong Gorospe, Manding Verediano and Jen Gandia.

The Parayno-Parayno Team is supporting former Gov. Amado Espino III in his quest to wrest back the provincial capitol of Pangasinan from the incumbent governor.

The team is also supporting the candidacy of Rose Apaga and Hero Sumera for board members of the 5th District.

Del Prado, meanwhile, said he is also not worried about running against Ramon Guico Jr., an incumbent congressman and father of the governor, claiming strong support in Urdaneta and the towns of Binalonan, Pozorrubio, Simon, Laoac, Villasis, Sto. Tomas, Bautista and Alcala. (Leonardo Micua)
