MAYOR Belen Fernandez, highlighting her motto “Unliserbisyo, hindi unliperwesyo”, lambasted the seven opposition councilors of Dagupan City in a speech after she, along with Vice Mayor Bryan Kua and their entire team, filed their certificates of candidacy (CoCs) before the City Elections Office morning of October 4.

“We will continue Unliserbisyo and make it even better,” Fernandez said in a short statement, where she also assured that programs such as college scholarships for students from poor families, and assistance for solo parents, fishermen, farmers, vendors, among others, will be continued.

She confidently said the tyranny of the majority seven in the Sangguniang Panlungsod is about to end as she vouched for the integrity and character of her teammates running for councilors.

The two highest officials of the city filed along with their candidates for councilors, re-electionists Michael Fernandez and Jeslito Seen; former Councilors Joey Tamayo, Luis Samson Jr., Karlos Liberato Reyna IV, Marvin Fabia, Joshua Bugayong; and new faces Tala Ubando-Paras, a Sangguniang Kabataan secretary of Bonuan Gueset, and Dr. Jalice “Jaja” Cayabyab, who recently resigned from the Region 1 Medical Center to run for office.

All filed under President Ferdinand Marcos’ party, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, wearing the party’s brand color red. They were accompanied to the Comelec office by brothers Ashok and Rocky Vasandani, and former Dagupan Councilor Liberator Reyna Jr.

Before filing, they attended a 7:00 a.m. mass at the Saint John the Evangelist Cathedral along with hundreds of their supporters who wore red shirts then walked to the Comelec Office.

At the cathedral, Teddy Villamil, a known loyalist of former Mayor Brian Lim, showed up and when asked by the PUNCH about his attendance, Villamil said: “My presence here speaks for itself.”

Former Councilor Joey Tamayo seconded Mayor Fernandez’s tirades against the opposition councilors, adding that when former Mayor Bryan Lim was at the helm, the annual budget of Dagupan was never delayed unlike what opposition councilors regularly do.

As of this writing, members of the opposition team have yet to file their respective CoCs. (Leonardo Micua)
