Celia challenges Belen; Brian vs VM Kua
OPPOSITION Councilor Celia Lim will challenge Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez in her re-election bid while her son, former Mayor Brian Lim, will square off with Vice Mayor Bryan Kua in the May 2025 elections.
The mother-and-son team and their 10 candidates for councilor, filed their respective Certificates of Candidacy (CoC) before the Dagupan City elections office on the morning of October 7. They are running under the banner of the Nacionalista Party.
Six of the 10 candidates for councilor, are reelectionists, namely: Librada Reyna-Macalanda, Alfie Fernandez, Redford Erfe-Mejia, Alvin Coquia, Irene Lim-Acosta and Marilou Fernandez.
The others are Leo Cauton, Jek Palaganas, Benedict Cayabyab and John Kristofferson Chua.
Before filing their CoCs, the Lim-Lim (formerly LiFe) team heard an early morning mass at the St. John the Evangelist Cathedral together with their supporters.
A two-termer councilor of Dagupan, Celia Lim vowed to bring positive changes in the city through clean and honest government if she succeeds to become the third city mayor in their family after her son and late husband, Benjie.
Prior to the filing of CoCs, a return bout between Mayor Fernandez and Bryan Lim was anticipated, with the latter
having former Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez as running mate. (Leonardo Micua)
