Sual mayor skips Senate hearing due to dengue

SUAL Mayor Liseldo “Dong” Calugay, who had been linked to dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo, was a no-show at a Senate hearing on Thursday, citing a recent dengue diagnosis.

The hearing was scheduled by the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality Chairperson to look into Calugay’s alleged ties to Guo and the controversial Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) industry.

In a letter, dated September 4, addressed to Senator Risa Hontiveros, chair of the committee, Calugay’s camp explained that the mayor’s medical condition necessitated immediate rest and medical attention.

A medical certificate from the Sual Primary Care Facility-Infirmary confirmed Calugay’s dengue diagnosis, which was made on September 3.

Despite the mayor’s absence, the Senate committee is expected to proceed with its investigation into the matter. (Ahikam Pasion)
