Six fishermen return safely after typhoon, 3 still missing
IN the aftermath of Typhoon Enteng and the southwest monsoon, six fishermen from Bolinao have safely returned home, while three others remain missing.
According to Cherish Calicdan, spokesperson of the Bolinao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the six fishermen ventured out to sea from Barangay Balingasay, approximately 67 nautical miles off the coast of Bolinao. At the time, there was no gale warning in the area, although it was within a low-pressure zone.
Rescue efforts were successful on Monday when three of the fishermen were spotted floating in the sea near the boundary of La Union and Ilocos Sur provinces.
Their boat had capsized, and they were unable to locate three companions who were on a separate vessel.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) promptly brought the rescued fishermen to their office in Sual town, before allowing them to return home on Tuesday. The relieved families welcomed them back on Wednesday, having initially feared the worst.
Search and rescue operations are continuing for the three missing from Barangay Lucero in Bolinao, who have been identified as Coragel Carolino, 58; Ace Carolino, 23; and Ramon Fernandez, 58. (Ahikam Pasion)
