Rivals Caramat, Macanlalay team up for 2025
THE three-decade old political rivalry between the Caramat and Macanlalay families in Calasiao is now a thing of the past after they held a unity meeting at Casa Grande event center last September 18, in preparation for a unified run in next year’s elections.
The meeting was held between Liga ng mga Barangay President Patrick Caramat and incumbent Mayor Kevin Roy Macanlalay, two political leaders of the town who are likely to oppose each other in the May 2025 mid-term polls.
They were joined by former mayors Joseph Arman Bauzon, Roy Macanlalay and Felipe “Celso” de Vera as well as former Vice Mayor Mahadeva Das Mesina, former Liga ng Barangay president Carlito Dion, former Provincial Accountant Arturo Soriano, and Councilors PJ de Vera, Art Gaspar and former Municipal Administrators Vivencio Vallo, Jerome Gabrillo, Rodolfo Untalan and Mon Manipud.
The idea of political unification was formed in 2023, according to Caramat, son of the late Mayor Mamilyn Agustin Caramat and Major General Romeo Caramat of the Philippine National Police.
“We all know that Calasiao is divided into two political parties, And we are happy to say, we finally broke the barrier, agreed to unify and in fact, decided to field a strong Unity Team in the 2025 local elections,” he said.
For his part, Macanlalay, who succeeded the late Mayor Mamilyn Caramat when she died in office in 2022, described the event as historical.
“Ngayong araw ay historical dito sa bayan ng Calasiao because after more than three decades these two political rivals ay nag-isa, nagsama po sa isang mithiin na makapag-silbi sa bayan ng Calasiao,” the mayor said. (Denisse Brillante/Intern)
