HOTTEST DAY IN SEPTEMBER

AFTER a couple of weeks of rains, Pangasinan sizzled anew on September 25 with the heat index recorded at 45°C, considered a dangerous level by the state weather bureau PAGASA.

That level was 3.7°C higher than the normal maximum temperature of Pangasinan during the month of September, according to Engr. Jose Estrada Jr., chief meteorologist of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Science Administration (PAGASA) office in Dagupan City.

He said the high temperature being experienced in the province can be attributed to the “easterlies” or humid air from the Pacific Ocean.

He added that such a cycle will result in a monsoon break that normally occurs when there are few or no rains for a few days during a rainy season, which is expected to last until the second week of October.

At the same time, localized thunderstorms are also still expected to cause rain in several areas of the province.

As in the past summer, PAGASA again reminded the public to drink plenty of water and wear light clothing to avoid heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heat stroke. (Kim Gealogo)
