Extended term of barangay, SK officials to 6 years proposed
A bill filed by Senator Imee Marcos seeks to extend the term of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials to six years from the current three, meaning the next BSK Elections will be in 2029.
“I hope, na maayos natin ito,” said Marcos, among the authors of the bill, in a press conference on September 18 at CSI Stadia when she spoke during a women symposium organized by Mayor Belen Fernandez.
She said the proposal, intended to minimize the number of elections in the country and allow barangay and youth officials to see projects through, is supported by other senators.
“This is what we want. Hindi naman puwede na halos taun-taon, tayo ay may election,” Marcos said.
She further said that the Commission on Elections is aiming to automate the BSKE. (Leonardo Micua)
