VOTER REGISTRATION ENDS SEP 30

THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Dagupan City is gearing up for the start of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) filing period, scheduled on October 1 to 8, from 8 am to 5 pm.

Aspiring candidates for next year’s midterm elections are expected to submit their COCs during those days.

According to COMELEC Dagupan’s Election Officer, Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento, the final day of COC filing is anticipated to be particularly busy due to the belief that the ‘number eight’ brings good luck.

Aspiring candidates must prepare seven copies of their COCs. A candidate nominated should also provide a Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance. These documents should be filed at the COMELEC Office on the second floor of the City Hall in Dagupan.

After the COC filing period ends, the COMELEC will not accept substitutions due to withdrawal.

The COC filing follows immediately after the closing of voter registration on September 30.

The COMELEC in Dagupan City has already exceeded its target number of registrations with over 100,000 registered residents.

In an interview with Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan, Sarmiento revealed that as of August, a total of 141,300 individuals have successfully registered, and the number is expected to hit 145,000 by the end of the registration period. (Ahikam Pasion)
