16 BARANGAYS SUBMERGED

CALASIAO is the first town in Pangasinan placed under the state of calamity in the aftermath of Typhoon“Enteng”.

In a resolution of the Sangguniang  Bayan upon the request of Mayor Kevin Roy Macanlalay, 16 of the 24 towns of Calasiao were still flooded as of September 10 due to the continuous swelling of the Marusay River that had then already risen to 9.2 feet, from the normal level of six feet.

With the declaration of a state of calamity, the municipal government started to use its quick reaction fund from its calamity fund to assist the affected residents in all the flooded barangays.

Inundated due to the continuous swelling of the Marusay River were Barangays Nalsian, Lumbang, Poblacion East, Gabon, Ambonao, Malabago, Longos, Banaoang, Buenlag, Doyong, Mancup, Quesban, Songcoy and Dinalaoan.

Most residents in these flooded barangays initially opted to remain in their homes but were forced by the town government to evacuate to higher grounds to avoid leptospirosis infection.

While the flooding eased the next day (September 11) when rains stopped, weathermen warned another typhoon in the Pacific Ocean that bring days of monsoon rains in Northern  and Central Luzon.  (Leonardo Micua)
