Pass Supplemental Budget 2 now
MBTF TO DAGUPAN SP MAJORITY
DAGUPAN Mayor Belen Fernandez again wrote the Sangguniang Panlungsod on July 29 to ask for the immediate approval of Supplemental Budget. No. 2 for 2024, which covers P457 million some of which will be for disaster preparedness and response.
Projects lined up for funding under the budget fund include road elevation and construction of wider and bigger drainage systems, and the acquisition of fire trucks, ambulances and equipment of the Super Family Health Clinic.
She cited a pressing need for additional nurses and personnel for the City Health Office, construction of school buildings that can be tapped as evacuation centers, relocation of the city’s command center, and purchase of disaster response equipment.
In her letter, Fernandez pointed out severe flooding in Metro Manila, to underscore the need to enhance Dagupan’s preparedness and infrastructures to prevent a similar devastation.
“Our flood mitigation projects have been carefully planned to address the specific vulnerabilities of our region. However, without funding, these projects cannot be implemented which could leave us exposed to potentially catastrophic consequences,” she said.
In her visit to the Dagupan City dump site in Bonuan last week, the mayor said without the supplemental budget, the city cannot acquire four new dump trucks, a backhoe, a payloader, four garongs fitted to a motorcycle, and one glass pulverizer for a more efficient management of the city’s garbage.
City Waste Management Officer Bernard Cabison said the city government only has one truck for delivering waste to the Metro Clark Sanitary Landfill in Capas, Tarlac, which is insufficient for the 60 to 70 tons of garbage to be hauled daily. (Leonardo Micua)
