898 riders apprehended violating mandatory wearing of vests
THERE were 898 motorcycle riders, tricycle drivers, and others that were apprehended in various towns of Pangasinan since the start of the enforcement of Provincial Ordinance 325-2024 on August 15, which prescribes the mandatory wearing of reflectorized vests.
P/Capt. Renan de la Cruz, information officer of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, confirmed that those apprehended were merely given a warning since it was only their first offense.
Violators’ second offense will be fined P1,000; P2,000 for the third offense, and P5,000 or imprisonment for the fourth offense.
Apprehended were 782 motorcycle drivers, 94 tricycles drivers, 18 drivers of “kolongkong”, and four e-bike riders.
Meanwhile, the sale of reflectorized vests in all outlets became brisk following the start of enforcement on August 15 of Provincial Ordinance 325-2024, which mandates the wearing of reflectorized vests by drivers of motorcycles, e-bikes, tri-bikes and tricycles, especially at night.
Vests were being sold from P600 to P800 each while shoulder reflectorized vests only sold from P40 to P80 each.
Meanwhile, Dagupan City is also set to propose an ordinance similar to Provincial Ordinance No. 325-2024 to minimize the number of accidents along the highways usually involving motorcycle drivers. (IFM Dagupan/ Matthew Pacheco)
