BINMALEY’S POLITICAL HOTSPOT

TOWN residents of Binmaley started to feel political tension heating up when Vice Mayor Simplicio Rosario challenged Mayor Pedro Merrera III to a public debate to discuss pressing issues facing the residents, this after calling out the mayor alleged failure of the administration to manage the disposal of wastes and garbag in the town.

In a press conference Monday, June 03, Rosario declared his readiness to engage in a purely one-on-one debate with the mayor, even on personal matters.

Rosario said he believes that a debate is an effective way for the townspeople to discern who is telling the truth and who is being deceitful.

During the press conference, Rosario, Merrera’s predecessor, vehemently denied allegations of mishandling of public funds, insisting the accusations against him were unfair.

He countered that Merrera is not only facing cases filed with the Ombudsman but also administrative cases at the Provincial Board, and presented copies of the cases filed against Mayor Merrera while expressing his willingness to respond to the cases filed against him before the Ombudsman.

He recalled that during his tenure as Mayor of Binmaley, he faced five cases, all of which were dismissed.

Rosario said he is prepared to accept any decision from the courts current cases, including the possibility of preventive suspension. (Ahikam Pasion)

Neglect of MRF in Binmaley risks health of residents – VM Rosario

VICE Mayor Simplicio ‘Sammy’ Rosario bewailed the negligence of Mayor Pedro “Pete” Merrera in maintaining the order and sanitation in the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Barangay Papagueyan which led to “suffering” by residents of Barangays Tombor and Papagueyan in Binmaley town from the stench of piles of foul-smelling garbage.

Vice Mayor Rosario, in an interview on June 3, said the residents of the two barangays have long complained about the stench caused by the leaking sludge from the MRF.

Rosario, the predecessor of Mayor Merrera, claims that he left the MRF in a clean state at the end of his administration, unlike the current condition.

He added that the water impounding system built by the National Irrigation Administration to supply water to the fishponds and rice fields of the two barangays are already filled with garbage.

Rosario said there was no reason for the Merrera administration to fail because funds are allocated for waste management in the town. (Ahikam Pasion)

Mayor Merrera refutes alleged neglected waste management

BINMALEY Mayor Pete Merrera promptly refuted allegations of uncollected waste piling up in several barangays in the town, particularly, after Vice Mayor Sammy Rosario called him out over the complaints of residents of Barangays Tombor and Papagueyan.

In an interview over Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan on June 5, Merrera pointed out that wastes are collected daily from the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), from Metro Clark Landfill, where the wastes are transported, with receipts as proofs.

He acknowledged the challenges faced due to shortage of dump trucks, with two currently under repair, but assured that a new dump truck will soon be purchased for waste collection.

Meanwhile, Merrera countered Rosario’s statement that the current administration is negligent, saying that the previous administration under Rosario, had resorted to burying wastes in pits to give the impression of a clean Binmaley, and challenged his detractors to examine the evidence in his office rather than fabricating stories.

He then cited issues that the then Rosario administration failed to clarify: 1) non-transfer of a PAGCOR multi-purpose evacuation center (MPEC) to its intended recipients. 2) Problems with housing program. 3) Unusable diagnostic bus. 4) “Skeleton” health centers. (Ahikam Pasion)
