DAGUPAN CITY was recently adjudged 604th among the 1,000 best cities in the world and 30th among the 55 Southeast Asian cities after Mayor Belen Fernandez did the livestream interview from London by representatives of the United Kingdom-based Oxford think tank group for the Oxford Economies’ Global Cities Index.

Fernandez was interviewed over a wide range of topics, from economy, human resources, environment and governance and the interviewers were unanimous in their thought that it was the best question and answer they did.

Unknown to her an Oxford team people actually came to Dagupan incognito evaluated the city, from way of life of its inhabitants and the style of governance in place.

Of the 55 cities in South East Asia included in that exclusive list, only nine are from the Philippines — Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Bacolod, Angeles, Dagupan, Zamboanga and General Santos.

While there is no award for being included in the list, being the 604th of the 1,000 best cities of the world is a distinction  that will boost the city’s efforts to invite domestic and foreign investors.

Fernandez considers Dagupan SM Center, City Mall of the Red Dragon group, Futura City of FilIvest, Bayani Hall, ACE Medical Center and others are among the biggest investments that came to Dagupan.

She expressed confidence that various infrastructures built by both the national and local governments will ensure that Dagupan will continue to be the melting pot of investors in Pangasinan as well as Region 1. (Leonardo Micua)
