Three jeepney drivers die from heat stroke

THREE jeepney drivers in Pangasinan already died after suffering from heat stroke.

This was confirmed by One Pangasinan Transport Federation (OPTF) president Bernard Tuliao in an interview last Tuesday, April 30.

Tuliao did not identify the drivers but said the three felt they had no choice but to be on the road to provide for their respective families despite feeling symptoms of a heat stroke early on.

He said two of the casualties were already suffering from high blood pressure but continued to ply their routes.

Tuliao said all the victims felt the same symptoms upon returning home: they felt dizzy then fainted. Little did others know that they were already suffering from heat stroke.

With this, Tuliao urged all drivers not to ply their routes if the heat is unbearable. “Huwag muna kayong pumasada lalo kapag sobrang mainit”, he said and urged drivers to take frequent breaks in order to cool down. “Mas importante ang buhay ninyo kaysa sa kita”, he added.

The families of the victims received financial assistance from OPTF members’ donations. (Ahikam Pasion)
