BARANGAY Tapuac in Dagupan finally ended its 22-year-old garbage problem and for this, it was adjudged the model barangay in waste management in Region1, earning the distinction as the cleanest and best in segregation among all barangays not only in Dagupan City but throughout Pangasinan and the Ilocos region.

Barangay Chairman Sidney Lomboy, only in his first term of office, is considered by his constituents as “God-sent”  because he removed the filthy Material Recovery Facility situated on Secretary Francisco Duque Jr. Road just behind Lyceum Northwestern University and transferred the MRF to a lot he owns at the E.P. Nava Street Extension.

The action saves motorists and students the nauseating stench from the rotting garbage that piled up in the old barangay MRF. He also made available is own truck to pick up garbage from the households and various establishments in the barangay.

Lomboy, who owns the Sidney Restaurant on Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension, was recently elected chairman of Barangay Tapuac on his promise to finally end the garbage problem of the village. He did it within his first two months in office.

Ike Palinar, barangay secretary of Tapuac, said the former MRF site on SFDJ Road was converted overnight into a “Halamanan sa Barangay” where “pinakbet” vegetables such as eggplants, ampalaya, okra and other green leafy vegetables now grow in abundance.

“Kapitan Sidney believed that the people of Tapuac did not deserve an MRF located in a commercial and residential area,” Palinar said.

Tapuac has since become the educational center of Dagupan, with LNU, Dagupan City National High School, Ednas School, Dominican Schools, La Salette, La Marea School, Hilkan, and others.
