Villasis Municipal Library bags 4 awards

VILLASIS Municipal Library was honored with four prestigious awards during the 6th Gawad Pampublikong Aklatan (GPA) ceremony held on March 22, 2024 at the Epifanio Delos Santos Auditorium of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), in celebration of the 65th Public Library Day in the Philippines.

GPA is the highest and most prestigious recognition conferred by the National Library of the Philippines to outstanding personnel, librarians, administrators, and public libraries that consistently provide high-quality library services to their communities.

Merly Zambrano, Librarian II, said the Villasis Municipal Library received four awards:

  1. 2024 Gawad Parangal (Unang Gantimpala)  – Professional Librarian Category, the highest award for the diligent service of public library administrators through exemplary leadership, promoting innovation that brings honor to the served library, and demonstrating good example as a government employee and Filipino citizen in the society they belong to.
  2. Public Library Achievement Award, a recognition for the significant contributions to the advancement of public library services, also acknowledged by other professional organizations.
  3. 2023 Public Library of the Year Award (Municipal Library Category), in recognition of its remarkable performance that has inspired other public libraries due to its highest dedication in serving the members of the community.
  4. 2023 Top Performing Public Library in the Philippines, for the dedication and perseverance in serving the largest number of clients (both physical and online users) in 2023, and being the best among all other municipal public libraries in the Philippines.

Ms. Zambrano, who dedicated the awards to the library, fellow librarians, and the town of Villasis, shared her passion for her work and commitment to excellence.

The awards were presented by Cesar Gilbert Adriano, NLP Director, Benjamin Abalos, Jr., DILG Secretary,  Jose Torres, Jr., Director-General Philippine Information Agency, and Myn Garcia, Deputy Country Representative of The Asia Foundation. (Eva Visperas)
