CJ Gesmundo thanks Dagupan’s support for 13th Justice Zone

CHIEF Justice Alexander Gesmundo led the establishment of the 13th Justice Zone in Dagupan, his sixth under his tenure, to actualize a shared vision of providing responsive and real-time justice services to the people.

This initiative marks the 13th Justice Zone introduced by the Justice Sector Coordinating Council (JSCC) since the putting up of the first Justice Zone in Quezon City in 2014. It already established zones in Cebu, Davao, Angeles, Bacolod, Naga, Calamba, Balanga, Baguio, Zamboanga, Tagaytay, and Puerto Princesa.

The Justice Zone serves as the flagship program of the JSCC, embodying its core policy direction of a coordinated sector approach to justice delivery. It involves the Department of Justice, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Supreme Court, and other attached agencies and offices.

Gesmundo underscored Justice Zone’s relevance by consolidating key programs to enhance coordination among various agencies, addressing issues of delay and accountability more effectively, enables efficient justice delivery.

He emphasized, “A Justice Zone is envisioned to be the gold standard in the delivery of justice—providing justice in real-time when needed, not merely in time.”

He credited Mayor Belen Fernandez for the decision to establish the Justice Zone in Dagupan who expressed interest, supported by meticulous preparations and assessments conducted by the JSCC’s TWG on Processes and Capacity Building.

Gesmundo thanked the city officials for their enthusiasm and commitment to the project even as he urged them to uphold the envisioned gold standard and serve as a model for other localities nationwide.

Expressing enthusiastic support for the Justice Zone, Mayor Fernandez cited its significance in bolstering the justice system’s crucial role in combating corruption, abuses, and lawlessness, challenges that Dagupan City currently confronts head-on.

She said the city has been intensifying its legal aid especially for the poor and the marginalized sectors with the establishment of the Women Center, Teen Center, Balay Silangan project to rescue abused women and children.

In expressing gratitude for the inclusion of Dagupan in the project, Fernandez reiterated the city’s commitment to contributing to the national dialogue on optimizing court systems, prosecution services, law enforcement, and corrections. (Eva Visperas)
