FOR DRUG PUSHERS, USERS

FAMILIES of self-confessed drug pushers and users in Dagupan City can now look forward to the city government’s help in rehabilitating their relatives in the hope of starting a new life through Dagupan’s Balay Silangan Reformation Center.

The city government’s help was formally offered by Mayor Belen Fernandez during the opening of Dagupan’s Balay Silangan Reformation Center last January 26 as she called on residents and city government to help in the city’s campaign against illegal drugs.

Mayor Fernandez reiterated her call during the flag-raising ceremony last January 29 at the city plaza, citing the benefits offered by the newly opened facility to families who wish to see their drug-infected relatives reformed and rehabilitated.

The center can accommodate 20 clients for each month-long program.

She urged barangay captains to help encourage known drug pushers and users in their communities to surrender so they can be recommended for rehabilitation at the city government’s expense.

She said the families of the drug-infected persons will be provided with food packs while their relatives are undergoing rehabilitation. The provision of P10,000 financial assistance to the families is being considered.

Urging all barangay chairpersons to cooperate, Fernandez expressed her determination to make Dagupan drug-free during her term.

She said she hopes to see Barangays Bolosan, Lasip Grande, Carael, Salapingao, Malued and Herrero-Perez to be declared drug-free soon. Earlier declared drug-cleared were Tebeng and Lasip Grande.

Dagupan’s Balay Silangan is the 12th of such facility in Pangasinan and the 48th in Region 1. It is one of the critical requirements of PDEA for any town/city to be declared drug-cleared. (Leonardo Micua)
