SP majority finally sets weekly committee hearings
PROPOSED 2024 ANNUAL BUDGET
THE committee on finance, budget and appropriations, composed of members of the majority of the Sangguniang Panlungsod released its weekly schedule of committee hearings on the proposed P1.33 annual city budget of Dagupan for 2024 until the end of January this year.
Based on list submitted by Committee chairman Councilor Redford Erfe-Mejia, chair of the committee on finance, budget and appropriations, committee hearings already started last Tuesday after the session.
Erfe-Mejia told department heads to attend the committee hearings and must bring with them the documents requested by his committee to avoid delay action on the 2024 annual budget.
Meanwhile, City Secretary Ryan Ravanzo told the PUNCH that a letter of Mayor Belen Fernandez requesting the SP majority to conduct the daily, not weekly hearings was received by the SP secretariat on Friday.
He also announced that committee hearings on barangay budgets started last Wednesday, January 10 over the objection of the minority bloc because as it may interfere with the passage of the city’s annual budget.
Under Section 323 of the Local Government Code, the Sanggunian cannot discuss any other business matter if the 2024 annual budget has not been passed up to the end of December 2023.
Without any approved new annual budget at the start of the new year, Dagupan again started to operate on a reenacted budget of 2023. (Leonardo Micua)
