Fire razes house, junk shop during New Year revelry
THE 2024 New Year Eve revelry resulted in the a razing of a house and a junkshop situated in one compound in Dagupan City.
The Bureau of Fire Protection received distress calls 12:27 .am. and rushed towards the PNR Site in Barangay Mayombo, Dagupan City where the fire was reported.
Reported on fire were a junk shop and a two-storey house both owned by My. Pablito Verdijo,.
In an interview with Verdijo, he said that he was lying down after partying, when his wife woke him up, as fire began to burn their junk shop beside their house.
In mere moments, their house that also stored some junk, was razed quickly.
Because both structures had big amounts of light and flammable materials, the fire quickly spread before firefighters could put out the fire.
No one was hurt in the incident.
The truck parked inside the junk shop was also completely destroyed by the fire.
While the cause of the incident is still under investigation by the BFP, the victim and local residents blamed the children in the neighborhood who were seen playing with kwitis, a local firecracker that flies to the sky and explodes seconds after being lit.
However, instead of flying towards the skies, the firecracker flew towards the junk shop and exploded inside.
Verdijo told to The PUNCH that he already experienced a similar incident in the 1980s.
“Ganiyan talaga, babangon na lang tayo uli hanggang kaya“, he said.
AT press time, authorities are still investigating the incident and calculating damages (Ahikam Pasion)
