KAP MORILLO SLAY
INTERIOR Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. pledged P500,000 as reward money to any person who can provide valuable information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators, including the mastermind, in the ambush-slaying of Poblacion Barangay Chairperson Melinda “Tonet” Morillo of Mangaldan on December 7 in Barangay Tebag in Mangaldan.
Secretary Abalos made the pledge when he and Pangasinan PNP Director Jeff Fanged visited the wake of the slain barangay captain in in Barangay Anolid, Mangaldan while a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Morillo was formed to conduct a more focused investigation on the case and until the perpetrators and the mastermind are arrested.
Abalos assured Morilla’s family that the STIG Morillo will not stop till the case is finally solved with the arrest of all suspects and the mastermind.
Describing the case as an isolated case because the rest of the Ilocos Region remains peaceful, Secretary Abalos appealed to all barangay captains and all residents of Mangaldan to cooperate with the STIG Morillo and help solve the case.
Morillo was driving her own car alone and proceeding to Barangay Tebag, her second home, when she was ambushed and killed by still unidentified suspects, two of whom were seen on CCTV escaping from the scene on board a motorcycle.
At the same time, P/Lt. Colonel Rolland Cabatan, Mangaldan police chief, appealed to persons who may have witnessed the incident, or may have crossed the paths of the suspects to contact any policeman and give verified and reliable information. (Leonardo Micua)
