LTO warns riders: P10k fine if caught with unregistered unit
NO REGISTRATION, NO TRAVEL POLICY
THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) Dagupan City District Office warned motorcycle riders and vehicle owners that if their units are caught on the road without registration papers, stiff penalty will be imposed.
LTO-Dagupan Chief Bong Dawaton made the warning after the Senate hearing on Wednesday, November 29, revealed that there are 12.9 million unregistered motorcycles in the country.
According to the lto.gov.ph, individuals apprehended with unregistered vehicles will be fined PHP 10,000.
While Dawaton did not disclose how many violators are there in Pangasinan, he said there are many motorcycles that are still without registration plates.
With this, Dawaton said the LTO has decided to step up its strategy against unregistered vehicles.
“Mas hihigpitan pa ng LTO ang pagpapatupad sa No Registration No Travel Policy”, he said.
While the head office is mulling over higher penalties, Dawaton said district offices are out to make a regular sweep in the streets.
“There will be more checkpoints in the districts,” he said because LTO has written to LGUs and urged them to follow-up on unregistered government vehicles.
Dawaton urged vehicle owners to register their vehicles at least two months before to avoid long queues. (Ahikam Pasion)
