Dagupan is region’s pilot area for ‘Oplan Iwas Paputok’
OPLAN ‘Iwas Paputok’ was launched in Dagupan City jointly by regional offices of the Department of Health, the Dagupan City government, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and other government agencies.
DOH Regional Director Paula Paz Sydiongco and Mayor Belen Fernandez led the launching at the Dagupan City Plaza that showcased other alternative means to create loud sounds, like torotot, marimba, and others lieu of firecracker explosions.
Oplan ‘Iwas Pauputok’ seeks to discourage lighting firecrackers to prevent injuries and risk losing limbs and lives, said Dagupan City Health Officers Ophelia Rivera.
She urged Dagupan residents to plan on other alternatives means to welcome creating sounds to welcome the New Year.
Mayor Fernandez said that Dagupan City will provide cash incentives to barangays with zero or least number of accidents caused by firecracker exclusions.
In a talk to newsmen, she said the barangays with zero firecracker injuries will receive P10,000 each and those with just minimal injuries will receive P5,000 each.
Fernandez hailed the launching of Oplan “Iwas Paputok” in Dagupan and pledged to make Yuletide season and the New Year’s revelry in the city zero-accident from firecracker explosions. (Butch Uka)
