THE celebration of the Dagupan City Fiesta with the theme “Leket Tan Liwawa ed Pasko” officially starts on December 7 with the simultaneous lighting of all Christmas lights in the city in a ceremony at the Quintos Bridge to be led by Senator Imee Marcos, along with Mayor Belen Fernandez, Vice Mayor Bryan Kua and Liga ng Barangay president Marcelino Fernandez, this year’s fiesta Hermano Mayor.

The city fiesta celebrates the feast of Saint John the Evangelist, patron saint of Dagupan and of fishermen.

Mayor Belen Fernandez said the start of the year’s fiesta will be simple with a ceremony at the Quintos Bridge because the bridge span that connects the eastern and western Dagupan, symbolizes the city’s transition to a year of peace, purity and prosperity even as some city officials refuse to support the initiative.

The Paseo de Belen, a permanent feature of the Dagupan Fiesta then was phased out for three years by her predecessor, was restored by Mayor Fernandez, and will be open for public viewing on December 8 at the Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension. All 31 barangays will create their own concepts of the nativity scene.
