THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said candidates of the recently-held Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) who failed to file their respective Statements of Contribution and Expenditures (SOCE) face stiff penalties.

The deadline for SOCE filing lapsed on Wednesday, November 29.

Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, warned that there will be severe consequences for violators.

Individuals who won the elections but were unable to file SOCE will risk removal from post, and they will be perpetually disqualified from running in future elections.

They will also be barred from holding any appointive government positions if they have failed to file SOCEs twice.

The deadline for SOCE was non-extendable.

COMELEC warned that candidates who may have overspent may also be removed from office.

In Dagupan City, almost 60-percent of the total 1,760 candidates filed their SOCEs up until November 29, according to latest COMELEC-Dagupan tally. (Ahikam Pasion)
